Visual Communication

For over thirty years I worked as a Graphic Designer in Australia and Ireland. I was also the inaugural Lecturer in Graphic Design at LyIT, and Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design at CSU Australia and UU Magee, Derry and Erasmus Professor to the University of Applied Sciences: Augsburg Germany. As Campus Coordinator for Design at UU Magee I wrote and directed the inaugural Bachelor of Design and Master of Design programmes and contributed to the establishment of the School of Creative Arts in Derry.

With a passion for visual art, illustration and photography I regularly attend OFFSET.

1960 Belfast is a line test for a more complex animation based on a poem I had published in Cyphers 43. ‘Drawn’ from childhood memories, I created this cell-by-cell over 20 years ago.  But as it took me a year and a half to make I decided to concentrate on writing. The final version was never made, but the line test was screened at the Galway Film Fleadh, the Irish Film Centre, Triskel Art Centre, Cork and the West Belfast Film Festival in 1998.

Forget-me-nots & Wild Roses – The illustrations above were produced for a fairytale written by Megan Reynolds, a little girl of twelve who always wanted to be a writer. She was very ill when she told the story and died a few days later. The book is published by BookBaby and all sales are used to help other children with the same condition and assist further research in the field.
